I had a chance to listen to both speaker sets for quite a while. First, lets look at the dimensions of each. The Cambridge set had one sub woofer, approximately 7 inches long, 5 inches deep and 5 inches tall, with 4 satellite speakers about 2 inches on all sides in a cube format. The Monsoon's sub woofer is only 4 inches tall, 4 inches deep and 5 inches long, and the satellites are flat panels that are about 5 inches tall. Also, the Monsoon has a 56Watt Sub, where the Cambridge's sub varies from 38 to 42Watts. As for how they sound, the Monsoon has a very clear, crisp sound and doesn't break up at higher volumes. The 3D effect is also very well achieved. The Cambridge set has a lot of satellite treble power, but the bass is not as powerful as the Monsoon's. Also, the Cambridge set breaks up after about 55% volume, which could be very annoying if you really need the clear loud sound.

After thinking over all these factors, you still have to look at the price tag. If you really aren't going to play sufficiently loud music, then you're better off not buying a speaker system with a sub woofer anyways. But, if you do need the thumping bass and loud satellites, then the extra $60 is definitely worth it for the Monsoon. In the end, I bought myself the Monsoon MH500 and am very happy with it.
